Agexport, the Guatemalan Exporters Association, has signed collaboration agreements with the National Organization of Commercial Enterprises (ONEC) and the National Association of Businesses and Industries of Herrera (ANEIH) to strengthen business ties between Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. The agreements are intended to facilitate trade, investment and the regional expansion of companies from both countries.

The agreements were formalized on September 22 in Santo Domingo during the “Guatemala más cerca de lo que te imaginas” event, organized by Guatemala’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Trade Office in the Dominican Republic, together with Agexport.

More than 100 Dominican companies participate in the event

The event brought together more than 100 companies and representatives of Dominican economic sectors, who received information about Guatemala’s export offering, investment opportunities and potential avenues for establishing commercial relationships between the two markets.

The collaboration agreements are designed to create mechanisms connecting companies affiliated with the three organizations. These channels will allow buyers, exporters, manufacturers, distributors and investors to identify business opportunities and establish direct contacts.

The organizations will also seek to exchange information about market conditions in both countries and identify products and services that could be commercialized in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.

Agreements seek to facilitate trade and investment

Among the objectives of the agreements is the promotion of representation and distribution agreements, strategic alliances and joint projects.

The initiative is intended to help companies seeking to expand their regional presence identify potential business partners in the other country. The agreements include opportunities for exporters, potential distributors and investors.

Jenniffer Troncoso, Executive Director of ONEC, said the alliance is intended to facilitate access to new contacts, market information and commercial opportunities for Dominican companies.

“We want this approach to generate sustained dialogue that allows us to identify concrete opportunities, according to the needs and priorities of each company, and that contributes to strengthening commercial ties between both countries,” Troncoso said during the event.

ANEIH seeks to establish a lasting business platform

Francis Mateo, First Vice President of ANEIH, described the agreement as an instrument to take institutional relations into the area of business between Guatemalan and Dominican companies.

Mateo said the agreement was designed as a “business cooperation mechanism” capable of generating concrete commercial opportunities.

ANEIH also proposed that the alliance could develop into a stable platform to facilitate market access, identify business partners and promote investment and expansion processes across the region.

The agenda also included the participation of Iván Mejía, CEO and President of Grupo Ramos, who discussed his company’s experience working with Guatemalan suppliers.

According to Mejía, Guatemala supplies Grupo Ramos with finished products and raw materials, while some Guatemalan companies already operate in the Dominican Republic.

“For 12 years we have been doing business with them and we will continue doing so,” Mejía said

Highlighting what he described as the transparency that has characterized the commercial relationships with Guatemalan businesspeople.
