CMI leads the Merco Empresas Guatemala 2026 ranking, while Progreso tops the Merco Responsabilidad list for corporate responsibility.

CMI, Progreso and Banco Industrial Lead Guatemala’s Merco Empresas 2026 Ranking

CMI ranked first in the fourth edition of Merco Empresas Guatemala 2026, which recognizes the companies with the strongest corporate reputation in the country. Progreso and Banco Industrial followed in second and third place, respectively. The results were presented at an event held at HQ Fontabella and led by Denise Mansilla, General Director of Merco Guatemala.

CMI, Progreso and Banco Industrial lead the reputation ranking

The Merco Empresas Guatemala 2026 ranking places CMI in first place, followed by Progreso in second and Banco Industrial in third.

The remaining companies in the top 10 are Castillo Hermanos in fourth place, BAC Guatemala in fifth, Irtra in sixth, Walmart in seventh, Pepsico in eighth, McDonald’s in ninth and Nestlé in tenth.

The ranking evaluates corporate reputation through assessments from different groups of experts, consumers, digital analysis and objective indicators related to companies.

Expert assessments highlight different areas of corporate reputation

As part of the Merco Empresas evaluation, experts were asked to identify the three companies with the strongest reputation according to their respective areas.

Among economic experts, financial analysts placed Castillo Hermanos first, followed by the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala and Banco Industrial.

Economic information journalists ranked Irtra first, Progreso second and Castillo Hermanos third. Meanwhile, business professors placed Irtra first, followed by Castillo Hermanos and McDonald’s.

Among social experts, NGOs placed Ecofiltro first, followed by the Universidad Rafael Landívar and the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala.

Organizations representing the labor sector placed the Universidad Rafael Landívar first, Hospital Esperanza second and Coca-Cola Femsa third.

Government and public-sector representatives identified Ecofiltro in first place, followed by the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala and the Universidad Rafael Landívar.

Progreso leads the ranking of corporate communication teams

Merco Empresas Guatemala also evaluated companies based on the performance of their communication teams.

Among economic information journalists, Progreso ranked first for the ability of its communication team to convey information and maintain a strong reputation over time.

The ranking was followed by Castillo Hermanos, CMI, Irtra, McDonald’s, Claro, Walmart, Coca-Cola Femsa, Banco Industrial and Cervecería Ambev Guatemala.

Consumers evaluate ethics and corporate responsibility

The study also included an assessment by consumers based on companies’ levels of ethics and responsibility, considering whether they are perceived as reputable and trustworthy.

According to the general population, the top 10 companies were Helados Sarita, Pollo Pinulito, Samsung, Banco Industrial, CMI, Coca-Cola Femsa, McDonald’s, Irtra, Pepsico and Dos Pinos.

Irtra leads Merco Digital Guatemala

In collaboration with Nethodology, Merco also developed a ranking focused on companies’ digital reputation.

The Merco Digital top 10 was led by Irtra, followed by the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, CMI, BAC Guatemala, Walmart, BANTRAB, Banco Industrial, Banrural, Grupo Cayalá and Progreso.

Merco Empresas Guatemala 2026 methodology

The Merco Empresas ranking was based on an analysis of 2,305 surveys involving different groups related to the business and social environment.

The participants included 333 senior executives from large companies, 32 financial analysts, 23 economic information journalists, 38 business professors, 36 NGOs, 21 labor-sector organizations, 31 government and public-sector representatives, and 1,761 consumers through Merco Sociedad.

The study also incorporated a digital analysis carried out with Nethodology, which examined 22,756 mentions, as well as a benchmarking exercise based on 30 objective indicators covering key aspects of companies’ performance and reality.

Merco’s research was conducted by Análisis e Investigación, a Spanish market research institute.

The methodology established by Monitor Empresarial de Reputación Corporativa, S.L. for the Merco Empresas Guatemala 2026 ranking underwent an independent review by KPMG. The methodology is available through Merco’s website.

Progreso leads Merco Responsabilidad Guatemala 2026

Alongside Merco Empresas, the fourth edition of Merco Responsabilidad Guatemala was also presented.

Progreso retained first place as the company with the strongest position in the responsibility ranking. CMI ranked second and Banco Industrial third, completing the same top three as the previous year.

The remaining positions in the top 10 were occupied by Castillo Hermanos in fourth place, Irtra in fifth, Pepsico in sixth, Nestlé in seventh, Walmart in eighth, Ecofiltro in ninth and McDonald’s in tenth.

Merco Responsabilidad evaluates corporate responsibility

The Merco Responsabilidad ranking was based on 2,334 surveys involving 333 management committees, 29 CSR experts, 32 financial analysts, 23 journalists, 31 government and public-sector representatives, 36 NGOs, 21 labor-sector organizations, 38 business professors and 1,761 consumers through Merco Sociedad.

As with Merco Empresas, the evaluation included a digital analysis conducted in collaboration with Nethodology, together with a benchmarking exercise based on 30 objective indicators covering key areas of companies’ performance.
