CABEI Expands COFINSA Credit Line by $8.8M to Support Guatemalan Businesses
The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has approved a third $8.8 million increase to its Global Credit Line for Financiera Consolidada, S.A. (COFINSA), part of CMI Capital, a business division of Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI). The expansion brings the facility's total value to up to $38.8 million, increasing financing availability for medium-sized enterprises and productive activities in Guatemala.

CABEI and COFINSA Expand Their Financing Partnership
The latest approval builds on a partnership established in 2022. Since then, CABEI and COFINSA have provided 62 loans to medium-sized Guatemalan businesses associated with 1,832 jobs across industries including manufacturing, logistics, commerce, real estate, higher education, and services.
The new funding will be channeled primarily through CABEI's Medium-Sized Enterprise Support Program, providing resources for working capital and fixed-asset purchases. It will also support productive activities, foreign trade operations, and women-led businesses, according to the development bank.
Expanding Access to Productive Financing in Guatemala
By increasing COFINSA's existing credit facility, CABEI aims to strengthen the availability of financing for companies seeking to sustain operations and invest in productive capacity.
The transaction also illustrates the role of financial intermediaries in CABEI's regional development strategy. Through partnerships with institutions such as COFINSA, the bank channels resources toward businesses that contribute to economic activity and employment in its member countries.
