TuPistaGt Earns International Recognition from Crime Stoppers for Tackling Crime with Technology
Guatemala’s TuPistaGt wins the global Innovation in Tackling Crime Award for creating the world’s first anonymous crime-reporting channel via WhatsApp, transforming public safety through technology.
TuPistaGt, the innovative crime-reporting platform from Guatemala, has received international recognition for its groundbreaking approach to public safety. The initiative, developed by Crime Stoppers Guatemala, earned the prestigious Innovation in Tackling Crime Award from Crime Stoppers International (CSI) for creating the world’s first anonymous crime-reporting channel via WhatsApp, a milestone in the global fight against crime.
A Technological Breakthrough in Crime Prevention
The award was officially presented to David Custodio Boteo, Director General of the Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC), acknowledging the country's pioneering role in combining technology and citizen engagement to strengthen security.
Through the TuPistaGt WhatsApp channel, citizens can report crimes anonymously using one of the world’s most widely used messaging applications. This tool allows direct communication with law enforcement without compromising the identity of the informant, building trust and fostering collaboration between the public and authorities.
“The creation of this channel marks a before and after in how communities can safely participate in crime prevention,” noted the PNC leadership during the announcement.
Measurable Results and Active Citizen Participation
Since its launch, the anonymous WhatsApp channel has produced tangible outcomes. So far this year, it has enabled 850 new investigations and increased digital reporting by 66%, underscoring the platform’s efficiency and the growing civic commitment to public safety.
These results highlight how accessible technology can become a powerful ally in crime prevention, encouraging citizens to take an active role in improving security across the country.
Anyone wishing to submit an anonymous report can write via WhatsApp at 3764-1561 or call the confidential hotline 1561. Both channels guarantee full anonymity, reinforcing the principle that citizen participation is key to creating safer communities.

Guatemala: A Global Example of Innovation in Public Safety
With this international recognition, Guatemala stands out as a model of innovation in the intersection between technology and public security. The collaboration between Crime Stoppers Guatemala, TuPistaGt, and the PNC demonstrates how technological tools can transform the way authorities and communities work together to fight modern crime.
The National Civil Police reaffirmed its commitment to continue developing digital tools that bring citizens closer to authorities, strengthen the national reporting system, and promote a safer and more connected Guatemala.
