Progreso Reports Regional Expansion and Sustainability Progress in 2025

Progreso has presented its Seventh Sustainability Report, titled The Value of Progressing Together,” highlighting how sustainability remains a central pillar of the corporate strategy of the company, which was founded 126 years ago.

For the first time, the report includes Progreso's operations in the Dominican Republic, its eighth country of presence following the regional expansion announced in 2024. The incorporation reflects the company's regional growth and its commitment to creating value across the markets where it operates.

Progreso's Four Sustainability Pillars

The report is structured around four strategic pillars that reflect Progreso's purpose of creating value alongside its main stakeholders, including employees, customers, and communities.

These pillars guide the company's sustainability strategy and focus on developing people, strengthening communities, and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Favorite Supplier: Expanding Regional Production

Progreso reported significant growth in its cement production and regional operations during 2025.

  • Cement production increased 11% in 2025, driven primarily by Guatemala. With the incorporation of the Dominican Republic, regional growth reached 46.8%, reinforcing the company's expansion.
  • The Dominican Republic became Progreso's eighth country of operation and now represents one-quarter of its regional cement production. As a result, cement production outside Guatemala increased from 15.6% in 2023 to 34.3% in 2025, reducing the company's dependence on a single market.
  • Progreso produces cement in Guatemala, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. It also manufactures concrete in Guatemala, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic, maintains commercial operations in El Salvador and Colombia, and exports lime to six Latin American countries.

Environmental Leader: Water, Alternative Materials and Solar Energy

Environmental management represents another key area highlighted in the report.

Progreso reduced water consumption through the reuse and utilization of rainwater across its operations.

The company also incorporated alternative raw materials into cement production, reducing emissions associated with the process while maintaining product quality.

In addition, Progreso launched Helios and Tijax, its first company-owned solar projects. Together, the two solar plants are expected to supply approximately 12% of the energy demand of the San Miguel and San Gabriel cement plants in Guatemala.

Responsible Citizen: Housing, Education and Infrastructure

The report also highlights Progreso's initiatives focused on communities surrounding its operations.

Through the HogaRES program, the company replaced 6,948 dirt floors with concrete floors, benefiting more than 34,000 people and contributing to improved housing and health conditions.

Between 2022 and 2025, Progreso invested US$3.7 million in educational programs developed by the Carlos F. Novella Foundation, supporting access to education in communities near its operations.

The company also contributed to local connectivity and infrastructure. Between 2024 and 2025, Progreso built 34.2 kilometers of roads and maintained 79.4 kilometers of roads, supporting connectivity and competitiveness in areas influenced by its operations.

Preferred Employer: Workforce Growth and Inclusion

Progreso ended 2025 with 4,892 direct employees, representing an 18.5% increase compared with the previous year.

At its cement plants, community employees account for 75.7% of the workforce, highlighting the company's impact on local economic development.

The company also reported progress in women's participation across its workforce. The number of female employees increased by 22% during 2025, while women hold 26.8% of management and leadership positions.

In terms of occupational health and safety, three cement plants and one paper bag plant hold ISO 45001 certification, supporting compliance with international standards for occupational health and safety.

A New Sustainability Strategy for the Future

As part of its evolution, Progreso announced that it is developing a new sustainability strategy designed to respond to its current regional expansion and evolving regulatory requirements.

According to the company, the strategy will seek to create greater synergies with its business model, strengthen risk management, and continue generating value for all of its stakeholders.
