PepsiCo Expands Logistics Network With New Distribution Center in Quetzaltenango

PepsiCo has inaugurated a new distribution center in Quetzaltenango, reinforcing its logistics network in western Guatemala while creating approximately 180 direct jobs. The new facility will strengthen the supply and distribution of the company's food portfolio across the region and further integrate its operations with local agricultural producers.

New facility strengthens PepsiCo's presence in western Guatemala

The distribution center represents another step in PepsiCo's regional growth strategy by consolidating operations in an area that plays an important role within the company's value chain.

Quetzaltenango is home to local potato growers who supply the raw materials used to produce Lay's products for the Central American market. With the opening of the new facility, PepsiCo is also expanding its capacity to distribute products more efficiently across several departments in Guatemala.

"The inauguration of this center strengthens a value chain that begins in the fields, continues through our operations, and reaches the tables of millions of consumers across Central America, allowing us to continue growing alongside the region while contributing to the country's development," said Rodrigo Borges, General Manager of PepsiCo Foods for Central America.

Integrated logistics operations under one roof

The new distribution center combines storage, distribution, and commercial operations within a single facility to improve coordination across the company's logistics network serving western Guatemala.

The site includes more than 7,000 storage positions, 10 loading and unloading docks, and dedicated areas designed to support transportation and product distribution activities.

From Quetzaltenango, PepsiCo supplies 10 product exchange centers that serve departments including Huehuetenango, San Marcos, Quiché, Sololá, Retalhuleu, and Suchitepéquez, as well as municipalities such as Malacatán, Mazatenango, Tiquisate, and Coatepeque.

Technology enhances logistics efficiency

The new operation incorporates technology designed to optimize inventory management, order preparation, and real-time monitoring of logistics processes.

Among the systems implemented are voice-assisted order picking solutions, warehouse management platforms, digitized operational processes, and electric forklifts powered by lithium batteries, all intended to improve operational efficiency throughout the distribution process.

Investment supports employment and regional development

During the inauguration ceremony, Roger Rigaud, Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala, highlighted the broader impact of the investment.

"May this distribution center serve as a symbol of what U.S. investment and Guatemalan talent can achieve together: shared economic prosperity, quality employment, and a safer and stronger future for both of our nations."

The facility also incorporates systems designed to promote the efficient use of energy and water, aligning its operations with PepsiCo's broader growth strategy while supporting more efficient resource management.

Expanding Guatemala's food distribution network

With the opening of its Quetzaltenango distribution center, PepsiCo strengthens both its logistics infrastructure and its connection with local agricultural producers, reinforcing a value chain that spans from crop production to food distribution across Central America.

The investment also enhances the company's ability to serve western Guatemala more efficiently while supporting employment, regional economic activity, and the continued development of its distribution network.
