Nequi Introduces Mobile Recharge Feature to Strengthen Digital Financial Services

Nequi has expanded the services available through its mobile application by introducing the ability to purchase prepaid mobile top-ups and data packages for Tigo and Claro users in Guatemala. The new feature launches with a promotional offer that provides 50% cashback on eligible transactions made during July, subject to the campaign's terms and conditions.

The addition allows users to recharge mobile balances or purchase data packages directly from the app without visiting a physical retailer or using cash.

How to buy mobile top-ups through the Nequi app

The new feature can be accessed in three simple steps.

Users first enter the Nequi application and select the "Packages & Top-Ups" section. They then choose either Tigo Top-Ups or Claro Top-Ups, depending on their mobile carrier.

Next, users select the desired recharge amount or data package, enter the phone number and confirm the purchase.

Once the transaction is completed, the recharge is applied immediately. Eligible users also receive a 50% cashback directly into their Nequi account in accordance with the promotion's terms and conditions.

"We want the Nequi ecosystem to be the solution for Guatemalans' everyday needs. Adding Claro and Tigo top-ups with this cashback benefit demonstrates how technology can bring together everyday services," said Valeria Maldonado, Country Manager of Nequi Guatemala.

Nequi continues expanding its digital financial ecosystem

The mobile recharge feature joins a growing list of services already available within the platform.

Nequi users can open an account at no cost, send and receive money, collect remittances, and withdraw cash through 5B ATMs and Akisí locations.

The platform also includes financial management tools designed to help users organize their money.

Among them are Sobres, which allow users to separate funds for specific expenses; Imprevistos, created to build emergency savings; and Chubales, a feature that helps users set savings goals while offering the possibility of earning interest after reaching those objectives.

Supporting digital financial adoption in Guatemala

According to Nequi, the addition of mobile top-ups aligns with its strategy of expanding access to digital financial services while encouraging better money management habits.

The platform operates with the support of Bam and leverages the regional experience of Grupo Cibest as it continues to broaden the range of everyday financial services available through a single mobile application.
