María José Paiz Wins Excellence in Strategic Philanthropy at Dubai’s Excellence Awards 2026

Excellence Awards 2026 recognized Guatemalan leader María José Paiz with the Excellence in Philanthropy – Best in Strategic Philanthropy award, acknowledging her commitment to social development and her efforts to create opportunities for communities through Fundación Bi.

International recognition for purpose-driven leadership

The sixth edition of the Excellence Awards took place at Dubai's iconic Museum of the Future, bringing together women leaders and organizations whose work has generated a positive impact through inclusion, innovation, and leadership.

Among this year's honorees was María José Paiz, who received the Excellence in Philanthropy – Best in Strategic Philanthropy distinction for her dedication to advancing social development and expanding opportunities for communities.

Reflecting on the recognition, Paiz emphasized the importance of collaboration and servant leadership.

"I receive this recognition with deep gratitude because it reflects the efforts of an incredible team, our partners, and the communities we serve. The greatest lesson I have learned is that leadership is not about being in front, but about serving others," she said.

This year's awards recognized 35 women and organizations, selected from more than 300 nominations.

The ceremony brought together entrepreneurs, executives, and representatives from organizations working across sectors including technology, education, healthcare, sustainability, finance, innovation, and wellness.

The event highlighted the growing role of women as leaders who promote development, foster innovation, and drive meaningful change within their communities and industries.

Organized by BeingShe and Gulf News, the Excellence Awards aim to recognize women whose achievements have inspired others, broken barriers, and created lasting social impact.

In its 2026 edition, the program also expanded its focus by honoring organizations that foster inclusive workplaces where women have opportunities to lead, innovate, grow professionally, and reach their full potential.

Leading Fundación Bi's social development initiatives

María José Paiz currently serves as General Manager of Fundación Bi, where she leads initiatives designed to expand development opportunities for communities across Guatemala and Central America.

During her first two years leading the organization, Fundación Bi has benefited more than half a million Guatemalans, extending its programs to all 22 departments of the country.

The foundation develops initiatives focused on education, entrepreneurship, sports, healthcare, financial education, and volunteerism, with the goal of promoting sustainable prosperity and community development.

A recognition that highlights Guatemala's social impact

Beyond honoring María José Paiz's individual leadership, the award also reflects the work being carried out in Guatemala to promote social development initiatives with regional reach.
