Guatemala’s Synergy Industrial Park Earns Global Recognition for Sustainable Industrial Development

Synergy Industrial Park, part of Spectrum, has positioned Guatemala on the global map of sustainable industrial infrastructure after earning a place among the world’s Top 10 industrial developments certified under LEED Gold for Communities: Plan and Design by the U.S. Green Building Council. The project also became the largest development in the Americas within its category.

The recognition follows more than four years of multidisciplinary work involving over 20 specialists across urban planning, sustainability, engineering and infrastructure. The process resulted in an industrial development model designed to meet growing international demand for resilient, efficient and ESG-aligned operations.

A milestone for Guatemala’s industrial sector

According to Alejandro Guillén, business director of Synergy Industrial Park, the achievement represents both a company milestone and a broader signal for Guatemala’s industrial future.

Reaching the global Top 10 in LEED Gold-certified industrial developments represents a milestone for Synergy Industrial Park and for Guatemala. With more than 530 hectares certified, today we are the industrial project with the largest LEED Gold footprint in the country and the largest development in the Americas in our category,” Guillén said.

He added that the project reflects a long-term strategy focused on world-class infrastructure, sustainability and responsible growth.

The vision behind the development originated from a strategic decision by Spectrum to integrate sustainability standards from the earliest design and planning stages, anticipating the expectations of global investors and multinational companies seeking environmentally responsible industrial hubs.

Bernardo Barona, director of Global Market Development LATAM, emphasized that the LEED Gold certification goes beyond environmental recognition by reinforcing Guatemala’s ability to deliver projects aligned with the highest international standards.

From the perspective of Green Business Certification Inc., Synergy Industrial Park stands out as a benchmark for strategic planning capable of generating positive territorial transformation.

The achievement also strengthens Spectrum’s regional positioning. The company now surpasses 5.6 million square meters certified under the LEED system, consolidating its position as the developer with the largest certified footprint in Central America.

Industrial development integrated with nature

One of the defining characteristics of Synergy Industrial Park is its integration with the surrounding natural environment. Moving away from the traditional industrial park model dominated by urban expansion and concrete infrastructure, the project allocates more than 1.6 million square meters to protected natural reserves, representing nearly 30% of the total development area.

These protected spaces not only provide environmental value but also strengthen ecological resilience while promoting balance between industrial activity and conservation efforts.

As global companies increasingly prioritize sustainable operating environments, this approach has become a competitive advantage for attracting investment.

The project also includes a fully underground electrical system designed to improve energy reliability and reduce operational risks. This infrastructure is particularly valuable for companies that depend on uninterrupted service and highly sensitive industrial operations.

Guatemala positions itself in the sustainable industrial economy

The international recognition obtained by Synergy Industrial Park also sends a broader message about Guatemala’s ability to compete in the evolving global economy.

Synergy Industrial Park is a clear example of a large-scale development that integrates sustainability at every stage of planning. Achieving LEED Gold certification at this scale sends a powerful message: Guatemala is ready to lead sustainable industrial development in the Americas,” said Peter Templeton, president and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council and Green Business Certification Inc..

Bernardo Barona also highlighted that the certification validates not only the environmental and social performance of the development, but also Central America’s capacity to host projects aligned with the world’s highest industrial standards.

With this progress, Guatemala strengthens its value proposition as a strategic destination for sustainable industrial investment. Beyond expanding logistics and production infrastructure, the country is beginning to redefine how industrial growth can coexist with communities, environmental preservation and the future dynamics of the global economy.

For Synergy Industrial Park, the long-term vision remains focused on creating shared value, supporting local development and raising the standard of industrial infrastructure in the region through a model where sustainability, innovation and growth operate as part of the same ecosystem.
