Fundación BI Strengthens Education and Digital Skills with New Technology Program

Fundación BI has officially launched the educational initiative “One Computer Per Child Connect Learn,” providing technological equipment to more than 500 students in Guatemala as part of an effort to strengthen learning opportunities through innovation and digital inclusion.

The project was made possible through the collaboration of the Latin American Business Council (CEAL), One Laptop Per Child, Empresarios por la Educación, and Fundación Zamora Terán, which serves as the program’s implementing organization.

Bringing Technology and Innovation Into the Classroom

Through the “One Computer Per Child Connect Learn” program, participating schools are being transformed into spaces that encourage innovation and provide students with access to new technological tools.

According to studies conducted by the World Bank and UNESCO, eight out of every ten children in Latin America struggle to understand a simple text. This challenge became even more pronounced following the pandemic, highlighting the need for new educational approaches that can support student learning and development.

In response to this reality, Fundación BI is promoting an educational model that integrates technology into the learning process while providing ongoing training and support for teachers, enabling them to better guide their students.

The goal is for every child participating in the program to discover their potential and develop essential skills in reading, writing, mathematics, digital tools, and soft skills.

Three Schools Benefit from the Initiative

The educational program has reached students from three schools:

  • Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta El Carrizal
  • Centro Educativo Fe y Alegría No. 1
  • Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta Santa Ana

Through access to technology and educational support, the initiative seeks to help students strengthen both academic and digital competencies that will contribute to their future development.

The Four Pillars of the “Connect Learn” Model

The “Connect Learn” model is built on a comprehensive approach that combines technology, teacher development, and continuous evaluation. Its key components include:

  • One computer per child through a 1:1 model using XO PRO laptops
  • Teacher training and ongoing pedagogical support
  • Technological sustainability
  • A continuous monitoring and evaluation system

This structure is designed to ensure that technology is effectively integrated into the educational experience while supporting long-term impact within participating communities.

Reducing the Digital Divide Through Education

With the implementation of the “One Computer Per Child Connect Learn” program, Fundación BI aims to contribute to reducing the digital divide while creating sustainable and measurable outcomes for the communities it serves.

By combining access to technology, teacher support, and continuous evaluation, the initiative seeks to provide students with the tools and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
