FedEx Expands Guatemala–U.S. Cargo Capacity with Larger Aircraft to Support Trade Growth
FedEx has increased cargo capacity between Guatemala and the United States by more than 100,000 pounds per day through the addition of a Boeing 767 Freighter, strengthening trade connectivity and supporting Guatemalan exporters.
FedEx is reinforcing its commitment to Guatemala's international trade sector by expanding its regional cargo operations. The company has introduced a larger aircraft into its logistics network, increasing daily transportation capacity to the United States by more than 100,000 pounds and enhancing access for Guatemalan businesses to global markets.
FedEx boosts cargo operations between Guatemala and the United States
The logistics provider has upgraded its regional route by incorporating a Boeing 767 Freighter, replacing the Boeing 757 that had previously served the corridor connecting Miami, Guatemala City, and San Pedro Sula.
The capacity expansion comes in response to sustained growth in shipping demand observed since September 2024, when the triangular route was first launched. With the larger aircraft now in operation, FedEx will be able to move greater volumes of goods to the United States on a daily basis.
The development arrives at a time when exporters continue to require more robust logistics solutions to support their international operations. By increasing available cargo space, the company aims to strengthen commercial ties with Guatemala's largest trading partner while facilitating the movement of heavier shipments.
Basil Khalil, Vice President of Operations for the Caribbean and Central America at FedEx, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting local businesses.
"We are focused on providing reliable and efficient logistics solutions that enable local businesses to access international markets, compete globally, and drive trade across Central America," Khalil said.

A regional strategy focused on stronger trade connectivity
The additional air capacity forms part of a broader strategy designed to optimize transportation services and improve connections between Central America and North America.
Through these investments, FedEx continues to consolidate the regional logistics corridor it has been developing across the region.
The company's global network currently spans more than 220 countries and territories, while its Latin American division is supported by approximately 20,000 employees dedicated to express transportation, international logistics, and specialized distribution services.
Among the main advantages of the expansion are:
- More than 100,000 additional pounds of daily cargo capacity.
- Greater efficiency in transporting heavy shipments.
- Enhanced connectivity with the United States.
- Modernization of the regional air fleet.
- Expanded opportunities for Guatemalan exporters seeking access to international markets.
FedEx expands its ground presence in Guatemala
The company's investment strategy extends beyond air operations.
FedEx has also strengthened its presence within Guatemala through the opening of a new service center in Quetzaltenango, located in Plaza Alameda, Zone 9.
The facility complements the company's existing network of five branches operating in Guatemala City, allowing FedEx to broaden access to logistics services outside the capital.
By expanding into western Guatemala, the company seeks to decentralize the shipment and reception of goods while bringing international transportation solutions closer to businesses and customers in other regions of the country.
The strategic location is expected to improve service coverage and provide more efficient connections for clients looking to reach global markets.

Supporting Guatemala's growing role in regional supply chains
FedEx's latest investments underscore the increasing importance of Guatemala within regional logistics and trade networks.
The introduction of a higher-capacity aircraft, combined with expanded ground infrastructure, enhances the country's available resources for international commerce and strengthens its ability to handle rising export demand.
With a more extensive transportation network, increased cargo volumes, and a broader territorial footprint, FedEx aims to respond to evolving market needs while enabling more Guatemalan businesses to connect with international destinations efficiently and reliably.
