ENERGUATE Inaugurates Chocolá Substation to Strengthen Power Distribution in Guatemala

ENERGUATE strengthened its commitment to Guatemala’s economic and social development with the inauguration of the Chocolá substation in San Pablo Jocopilas, Suchitepéquez. The project is expected to improve the quality and stability of electricity service for thousands of households, businesses, and productive activities across the region.

The new infrastructure will be operated by Redes Eléctricas de Centroamérica and is part of the company’s broader strategy to modernize the country’s electrical network while supporting local economic growth.

A strategic energy project for southwestern Guatemala

Located in the municipality of San Pablo Jocopilas, the Chocolá substation is expected to directly benefit more than 30,000 households, commercial establishments, and productive activities.

Its impact will extend beyond Suchitepéquez into municipalities in the bocacosta region of Sololá, areas known for strong agricultural, commercial, and service-sector activity.

According to ENERGUATE, the project aims to provide more stable, reliable, and efficient electricity distribution while creating better conditions for entrepreneurship, investment, and local economic development.

This project reflects our commitment to responsible planning that translates into real benefits for communities and the development of the country,” said Paulo César Parra during the inauguration ceremony.

Collaboration between communities and the energy sector

The inauguration event brought together community leaders, local authorities, representatives from the energy sector, and executives from ENERGUATE and RECSA.

Company representatives highlighted that coordination between local governments, communities, and the energy industry played a key role in making the Chocolá substation possible.

During the event, Parra reaffirmed the company’s nationwide commitment to expanding electricity access.

At ENERGUATE, we bring energy to where the last electrical line reaches because our commitment is to be present throughout the entire territory,” he stated.

Q28.6 million investment strengthens Guatemala’s electrical infrastructure

The Chocolá substation was developed with an estimated investment of Q28.6 million as part of ENERGUATE’s efforts to strengthen Guatemala’s electrical infrastructure.

The company explained that the project is designed to meet both current and future electricity demand while improving service stability, reliability, and safety.

As part of the planning process, complementary infrastructure works were also developed to optimize energy distribution and reduce dependence on longer distribution routes.

These improvements included the development of the San Pablo Jocopilas and Santo Tomás La Unión electrical circuits, as well as seven kilometers of new power lines that will help improve the organization and flow of electricity across the network.

Supporting local growth through better energy distribution

According to ENERGUATE, the launch of the Chocolá substation represents another step toward bringing better electricity services to more communities across Guatemala.

The company believes the project will support economic activity in southwestern Guatemala by providing stronger infrastructure for homes, businesses, and productive sectors that rely on stable electricity service.

With this new substation, ENERGUATE and RECSA continue expanding efforts to improve quality of life and strengthen energy access throughout the country.
