BANRURAL's Mundial del Millón 2026 Turns Football Passion Into Social Impact

The Mundial del Millón BANRURAL 2026 combined the excitement of football with social impact, distributing more than Q1 million among five organizations working in health, nutrition, housing and inclusion in Guatemala. In its fifth consecutive edition, the initiative also rewarded dozens of customers with cash prizes.

A total of 163,272 Guatemalans participated in the promotion, which takes place every four years alongside the FIFA World Cup. Beyond the opportunity to win prizes, participation helped support organizations working with vulnerable communities across the country.

A million-quetzal prize among 36 cash awards

As part of the promotion, BANRURAL awarded 36 cash prizes to customers from Huehuetenango, Jutiapa, Guatemala, Escuintla, Izabal, Quiché, Santa Rosa, Quetzaltenango, Zacapa and Chiquimula.

The prizes included 10 awards of Q50,000, 10 of Q10,000 and 15 of Q5,000, in addition to the main Q1 million prize.

For the World Cup final, 762 participants correctly predicted the score, earning the right to enter the drawing for the grand prize.

The winner of the Q1 million was a BANRURAL customer from Huehuetenango who has maintained a relationship with the institution since 2006.

Five organizations receive social impact funding

The funds generated through the promotion were distributed among five organizations supporting projects in different areas of social development.

  • FUNDAL received Q220,979.80 to strengthen programs focused on care, education and inclusion for people with deafblindness and multiple disabilities.
  • Centro Moore received Q270,000 for specialized medical care and pediatric surgeries for children from low-income families.
  • Chispuditos – The Mathile Institute received Q150,000 to continue programs focused on the prevention and treatment of childhood malnutrition.
  • TECHO Guatemala received Q225,000 to support projects aimed at improving housing conditions and community development.
  • Meanwhile, Fundación Aldo Castañeda received Q200,000 to provide comprehensive care and cardiac surgeries for children with congenital heart conditions.

Together, the five contributions totaled more than Q1 million for projects addressing health, nutrition, housing and inclusion.

Turning football into social impact

During the donation ceremony, Juan Luis Fonseca, BANRURAL's general manager, highlighted the initiative's ability to transform a promotional campaign into a tool for social development.

According to Fonseca, customer participation made it possible for each quiniela purchased to become a contribution to organizations that work daily to improve the quality of life of thousands of Guatemalans.

This allowed the excitement surrounding football to extend beyond the sporting event and become an opportunity for solidarity.

A model focused on sustainable development

Through the Mundial del Millón BANRURAL, the financial institution reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development in Guatemala by combining opportunities for its customers with support for social organizations.

The initiative strengthens partnerships with institutions working on health, inclusion, nutrition and housing, while directing resources toward projects intended to contribute to the well-being of communities across the country.
