Banco de Guatemala Celebrates Its 80th Anniversary With Public Art Exhibition

Banco de Guatemala has inaugurated the "Artistic Heritage of Banco de Guatemala" exhibition, inviting the public to explore 70 works from its permanent art collection. The exhibition is part of the institution's 80th anniversary celebrations and will be open from July 17 to August 7 at the Carlos Mérida Exhibition Hall.

Exhibition highlights 70 works from the bank's art collection

The exhibition was officially opened by Álvaro González Ricci, President of the Monetary Board and Banco de Guatemala, together with the central bank's authorities.

The showcase brings together 70 artworks from the Banco de Guatemala Art Collection, featuring representative pieces from different movements in Guatemalan art, ranging from academic regionalism to postmodernism. The exhibition reflects the institution's commitment to preserving and sharing the country's artistic heritage.

"As we celebrate 80 years of the Central Bank's history, we reaffirm that our legacy is also expressed through our commitment to culture. As the Bank of Culture, we are proud to preserve this artistic heritage and, above all, bring it closer to the people of Guatemala," said Álvaro González Ricci, President of the Monetary Board and Banco de Guatemala.

The "Artistic Heritage of Banco de Guatemala" exhibition joins the series of cultural exhibitions presented by the institution throughout 2026 as part of a program designed to bring different artistic expressions closer to the public while highlighting Guatemala's creative legacy.

According to the institution, these cultural activities hold special significance this year as Banco de Guatemala commemorates its 80th anniversary, reinforcing its role in preserving and promoting the country's artistic heritage.
