Grupo Salinas Guatemala Expands Logistics Operations with New Distribution Center

Grupo Salinas Guatemala has inaugurated a new distribution center at Synergy Industrial Park in Escuintla, backed by an investment of US$510,000. The facility will support the company's long-term logistics strategy, with the capacity to supply 60% of its retail locations nationwide.

The new infrastructure expands the storage and distribution capabilities of Elektra and Italika, two of the group's main business units in Guatemala, while strengthening its ability to support future growth.

New Logistics Infrastructure to Support Elektra and Italika

The distribution center represents a strategic investment in Grupo Salinas Guatemala's operational infrastructure, designed to improve supply chain efficiency and support the continued expansion of Elektra and Italika.

Located along the Pacific Highway, the facility provides access to key distribution routes connecting several departments across Guatemala.

Its strategic position is expected to help reduce transportation times and logistics costs for branches in Escuintla, Suchitepéquez, Retalhuleu, San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Sacatepéquez, Chimaltenango, and other locations.

Juan José Girón, General Director of Grupo Salinas Guatemala, emphasized the importance of the investment for the company's long-term operations.

"This new distribution center reflects our long-term commitment to Guatemala. Having greater logistics capabilities will allow us to support the expansion of Elektra and Italika and respond more efficiently to our customers' needs," Girón stated.

He also highlighted how the facility's location along the Pacific Highway strengthens connections with strategic supply and distribution points, helping streamline the group's logistics network.

Synergy Industrial Park Strengthens Escuintla's Industrial Development

The new distribution center is located within Synergy Industrial Park, an industrial development spanning more than 530 hectares.

The park was designed to accommodate the operational needs of national and international companies, providing infrastructure and conditions that support investment, competitiveness, and the development of value chains.

Its location along a strategic commercial corridor connects businesses with important points for trade and productive activities throughout Guatemala.

This positioning also reinforces Escuintla's potential as a destination for new industrial and logistics operations.

Alejandro Guillén, Business Director of Synergy Industrial Park, highlighted the broader economic opportunities associated with investments such as Grupo Salinas Guatemala's new facility.

"Every company that arrives at Synergy Industrial Park has the potential to generate an impact that goes beyond its own operations. Grupo Salinas is an example of how investment can activate new value chains and opportunities," Guillén said.

He added that the park's vision focuses on creating conditions that allow companies to become more competitive while ensuring that their growth contributes to Guatemala's economic development.

The collaboration between Grupo Salinas Guatemala and Synergy Industrial Park reflects a shared interest in strengthening business infrastructure and creating opportunities for Escuintla and the country.

Technology Enhances Inventory Management and Distribution Efficiency

Beyond expanding its physical infrastructure, Grupo Salinas Guatemala has incorporated specialized technology into the new logistics center to improve operational performance.

The facility uses Manhattan and SAP Transportation Management, two systems that support inventory control, supply planning, and logistics management.

These technological capabilities are intended to optimize product availability, strengthen inventory oversight, and improve the efficiency of distribution processes.

By integrating these systems into its operations, Grupo Salinas Guatemala aims to reinforce the logistics capabilities required to support the continued growth of Elektra and Italika.

The investment also reflects the group's focus on technological innovation as part of its broader operational development strategy.

Sustainability Measures Integrated into the New Distribution Center

Environmental considerations are another component of the distribution center's design and operations.

In line with the sustainability commitments of Grupo Salinas Guatemala and Synergy Industrial Park, the facility incorporates solutions focused on the responsible use of natural resources.

Among the measures implemented are:

  • Water resource protection: Practices aimed at preserving the area's water resources.
  • Solar energy utilization: Incorporation of solutions that take advantage of solar power.
  • Natural ventilation: Warehouse designs that use natural airflow.

These initiatives align with Grupo Salinas Guatemala's commitment to generating inclusive prosperity through the creation of economic, social, and environmental value.

The sustainability measures also reflect Synergy Industrial Park's approach to developing infrastructure that supports business operations while incorporating environmental considerations.

Grupo Salinas Guatemala Reinforces Its Long-Term Commitment to the Country

The opening of the new distribution center adds to Grupo Salinas Guatemala's 29-year presence in the country.

Over nearly three decades, the group has developed operations across several industries through its business units: Elektra, Banco Azteca, Italika, TV Azteca Guate, and Fundación Azteca Guatemala.

These organizations operate in sectors including commerce, financial services, mobility, communications, and social impact.

Through these activities, Grupo Salinas Guatemala continues to pursue its goal of generating inclusive prosperity while strengthening its participation in the country's economic development.

The US$510,000 investment in Escuintla forms part of this long-term strategy, combining logistics infrastructure, technology, and sustainability to support the group's operations and the expansion of its retail businesses.

With the capacity to supply 60% of its points of sale, the new distribution center represents an additional step in strengthening the group's distribution network and operational capabilities in Guatemala.
