Walmart Centroamérica Expands in Guatemala with Innovative San Cristóbal Supercenter

Walmart Centroamérica has expanded its footprint in Guatemala with the opening of a new Supercenter in San Cristóbal, strengthening its presence in one of the country’s most dynamic commercial areas.

A Modern Three-Level Store in Mixco

On November 13, 2025, Walmart inaugurated Walmart San Cristóbal, its 12th store in the country. The new Supercenter is located on 3ª Calle, Boulevard Principal, San Cristóbal 7-71, Sector A-1, zone 8 of Mixco, offering customers a modern three-level shopping experience.

This new Walmart in San Cristóbal represents an opportunity to enhance the quality of life of Guatemalan families,” said Bárbara Viñals, Director of Superformats for CAM. “Its three-level design and strong sustainability focus allow us to offer a comfortable, modern space while minimizing environmental impact.

Store Features and Layout

The project covers a total area of 10,923 m², integrating the main store building and complementary service zones.

  • The main floor spans 4,503 m² dedicated to retail operations.
  • Two covered parking levels provide 189 spaces, including:
    • 18 spots for people with disabilities
    • 6 spaces for pregnant women
    • 50 areas for motorcycles
    • 8 pick-up points for quick order retrieval
    • 3 spaces designated for cargo trucks

Inside, customers will find key service areas such as a snack corner, bakery dispatch point, pharmacy, customer service, parcel area, warehouse, and cold rooms designed for fresh product storage. The store’s layout also incorporates a fluid vehicular system with two entry points and two exits, ensuring smooth access and a comfortable shopping experience.

Sustainability as a Core Pillar

Bárbara Viñals

The San Cristóbal Supercenter integrates multiple initiatives that reflect Walmart’s long-term environmental commitment. These include:

  • LED lighting systems to lower electricity consumption
  • Solar panels that supply renewable energy
  • An aerobic wastewater treatment plant
  • Water-saving systems to optimize usage
  • A 500 kW emergency generator to ensure uninterrupted operations
These sustainability efforts reaffirm our commitment to the well-being of the community and to the future of our operations in the country,” added Viñals.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

Beyond offering a new shopping destination for residents of Mixco, the store contributes to local economic development. The opening generated over 100 direct jobs and an additional 100 indirect jobs, supporting growth and providing new employment opportunities for the region.

We remain committed to economic development and to creating quality job opportunities for Guatemalans,” Viñals emphasized.

Commitment to Community Development

With the launch of Walmart San Cristóbal, Walmart Centroamérica strengthens its strategy of sustainable growth, social well-being, and long-term investment, aiming to improve the quality of life of families throughout Guatemala while expanding access to a wide variety of products in one convenient location.
