Tetra Pak Drives Environmental Innovation in Central America and the Caribbean
Tetra Pak strengthens its sustainability leadership in Central America and the Caribbean through circular economy initiatives, recycling programs, and environmental innovation in 2025.
With a clear focus on circular economy and resource efficiency, Tetra Pak advanced its regional sustainability agenda in 2025 by working closely with municipalities, customers, and business partners to improve waste management and environmental awareness.
These actions align with the company’s global environmental commitments, which include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 46% by 2030, achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, and maintaining 94% of electricity consumption from renewable sources across operations. Globally, Tetra Pak has invested €100 million in sustainable packaging innovation and €42 million in recycling infrastructure, reinforcing circular economy systems in multiple markets.
“Tu Papel Cuenta”: education as a driver of change

Inspired by these global goals, Tetra Pak launched a regional educational campaign in Central America and the Caribbean in 2025 as part of its long-standing program Tu Papel Cuenta.
Under the message “Every action counts to protect what’s good,” the initiative encourages households to separate beverage and food cartons, strengthening recycling chains and supporting natural resource conservation.
Guatemala: innovation, recycling, and community partnerships
In Guatemala, Tetra Pak participated in the Food and Beverage Convention, where it showcased innovations designed to reduce environmental impact while responding to consumer needs. These included processing technologies capable of lowering carbon emissions per product by up to 45%, as well as fully recyclable packaging made from renewable materials, developments presented as a call to action for the industry.
As part of the Tu Papel Cuenta campaign, new recycling stations were installed in several municipalities, including two in Izabal. These stations aim to expand carton collection in eastern Guatemala and were implemented in partnership with the Municipality of El Estor and community leaders. The initiative seeks to reduce pollution in the Motagua River Basin and protect natural heritage sites such as Lake Izabal and the manatee habitat.
Recognition for long-term impact

The impact of these efforts has received formal recognition. In 2025, the Tu Papel Cuenta program, with more than 17 years of trajectory and presence across Guatemala, Central America, and the Caribbean, received the highest distinction at the Sustainable Leadership Recognition Awards 2025 in the Environmental Category, granted by AmCham Panama. The award highlights projects that integrate education, innovation, and collaboration to build safer and more sustainable food systems.
Aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals
All of these initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing Tetra Pak’s business philosophy of protecting what’s good: food, people, and the planet. Through collaborative projects and innovative solutions, the company continues to lead the sustainability transformation across Central America and the Caribbean.
The close of 2025 marked a milestone in consolidating strategies that strengthen circular economy practices and environmental awareness. Looking ahead, Tetra Pak remains committed to generating positive community impact by integrating technology, education, and partnerships to address the region’s environmental and social challenges.
