Guatemala is experiencing one of its strongest years on record in terms of remittance inflows. New data shows that the country is on track for a historic milestone, reinforcing the crucial role that migrant families play in the national economy.
Remittance Inflows Reach US$21.3 Billion Between January and October
Between January 1 and October 31, 2025, Guatemala received US$21.358 billion in remittances, equivalent to around Q163.391 billion. This represents an increase of US$3.523 billion compared to the same period in 2024, highlighting a sustained upward trend in family transfers from abroad.
The month of October marked a particularly noteworthy moment, as remittances reached US$2.390 billion, the highest monthly figure of the year and a new peak in the historical series.
Six Consecutive Months Above US$2 Billion
According to the data series reviewed by authorities, Guatemala has recorded six straight months with remittance inflows exceeding US$2 billion. Since May 2025, every monthly report has remained above that threshold, pushing the average monthly inflow for the year to US$2.135 billion.
Comparison With Previous Years and 2025 Outlook

Annual remittance totals have shown consistent growth in recent years. At the end of:
- 2024, Guatemala received US$21.510 billion
- 2023, the total reached US$19.804 billion
- 2022, inflows were US$18.040 billion
Given the strong performance through October and the seasonal trends ahead, projections indicate that remittances will surpass US$25 billion by the end of 2025.
Seasonal Patterns Behind Remittance Fluctuations
Analysis from the Banco de Guatemala shows that remittances tend to fluctuate according to annual celebrations such as Holy Week, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and All Saints’ Day. However, December consistently stands out as a peak period due to Christmas and New Year, when families abroad typically send additional support.
These seasonal behaviors, combined with the sustained growth observed throughout 2025, underline the economic importance of remittances and their role in boosting household income across Guatemala.
