Oceana Expands in Iztapa with New Family Tower Focused on Sustainable Tourism
Oceana unveils its Family Tower, boosting sustainable tourism in Guatemala with innovation, local culture, and environmentally responsible hospitality experiences.
Guatemala’s hospitality sector continues to gain momentum with a new initiative from Oceana Resort and Conventions, which has introduced its Family Tower in Iztapa. This expansion represents a strategic evolution in response to the growing demand for more comprehensive tourism experiences—combining comfort, sustainability, and a deeper connection with the natural environment.
The addition of 50 new rooms increases the resort’s total capacity to 250, strengthening its offering for both family and corporate tourism. The project has been developed under a model that prioritizes responsible growth and a positive impact on the destination.
An expansion designed for new experiences
The new infrastructure aims to diversify the guest experience by offering spaces tailored to different needs. The concept focuses on flexibility and comfort—key elements in today’s tourism landscape.
“Beyond the increase in the number of rooms, what truly matters is the concept. We designed spaces that provide greater comfort, privacy, and flexibility for both families and the corporate segment, allowing us to offer more comprehensive solutions tailored to the real needs of our guests,” said Pedro Luis Ramírez, Marketing and Sales Manager.
With this expansion, the resort has strengthened its capacity to host events and group experiences by the sea. The integration of modern design and functionality plays a key role in consolidating its position within the regional market.

Regenerative tourism at the core of Oceana’s strategy
The development of the Family Tower aligns with a regenerative tourism model, embedding sustainability into every stage of the project. Operations focus on reducing environmental impact and optimizing resources.
“The tourism of the future is not just about growth, but about growing while generating a positive impact. At Oceana, we believe in a hospitality model that combines memorable experiences with sustainability and local development. This tower reflects our confidence in Guatemala’s tourism potential and in the ability of our communities to grow alongside us,” said Luis Meneses, General Manager.
Key sustainability initiatives include:
- installation of 594 solar panels
- reduction of more than 200 tons of CO₂ annually
- efficient hot water generation systems
- lower energy consumption across operations
These actions contribute to a more efficient operation, where the guest experience is directly linked to a sustainable tourism model.

Local culture as part of the experience
The project also integrates elements that highlight Guatemala’s cultural identity. Guest rooms feature pieces crafted by local artisans using traditional Mayan weaving techniques.
Each detail helps preserve cultural heritage while generating economic opportunities for artisan communities. This approach strengthens the connection between visitors and the destination.

A sustainable business vision
Oceana’s new Family Tower represents a strategic investment that combines growth, sustainability, and local development. Its implementation focuses on creating long-term value for both guests and the surrounding environment.
This initiative reflects a broader transformation in the tourism industry, where success is measured not only by capacity, but also by impact. Oceana continues to position itself as a regional benchmark, promoting a hospitality model aligned with global sustainability trends.
