Huawei FusionSolar Drives Distributed Solar Generation in Guatemala
The 5 MW Don Jorge photovoltaic plant in Guatemala leverages Huawei FusionSolar technology to deliver intelligent, efficient, and low-carbon distributed renewable energy.
Huawei FusionSolar plays a central role in the Don Jorge photovoltaic power plant, a solar facility located in Asunción Mita, Jutiapa, that exemplifies how distributed renewable generation is accelerating Guatemala’s energy transition.
With a strong focus on efficiency, digital intelligence, and operational reliability, the project contributes to building a more balanced and sustainable national energy matrix.
A 5 MW Distributed Solar Project Supporting Guatemala’s Energy Transition
The Don Jorge photovoltaic plant operates under Guatemala’s Distributed Renewable Generation (GDR) framework and has an installed capacity of 5 MW, positioning it as a key pillar in the country’s shift toward cleaner energy sources. By leveraging solar power, the project strengthens energy diversification while reducing environmental impact.
Owned by Corporación de Electricidad Centroamericana (CEC), the plant reinforces the company’s position as a national benchmark in clean energy generation, combining renewable resources with advanced digital power technologies.
Huawei FusionSolar Technology at Utility-Scale Level

The project integrates Huawei Digital Power’s FusionSolar solution at power plant level, designed to ensure secure, robust, efficient, and highly intelligent energy production. Through digitalization and smart management, the system enables optimal performance across the entire photovoltaic infrastructure.
In total, the plant incorporates 9,000 photovoltaic modules, supported by a comprehensive and well-balanced Balance of System (BOS) architecture that includes:
- 24 SUN2000–215KTL–H0 inverters
- SmartACU2000D–D–03 intelligent string controller
- STS–6000K–H1 smart transformer station
This systemic approach ensures seamless integration of all components and maximizes overall plant efficiency.
Real-Time Monitoring and Intelligent Operations
All equipment at the Don Jorge facility is monitored in real time through FusionSolar’s native application, providing full visibility into the operational status of each component. The platform offers advanced diagnostic tools that enable proactive operation and maintenance strategies, significantly reducing the need for human intervention.
This digital intelligence translates into improved reliability, faster issue detection, and sustained performance over time.

Measurable Environmental Impact and Proven Performance
Since entering commercial operation more than two years ago, the Don Jorge photovoltaic plant has enabled the reduction of approximately 13,000 tons of CO₂, contributing directly to a cleaner energy future for Guatemala and the broader region.
The project has demonstrated that Distributed Renewable Generation (GDR) is not only technically viable but also capable of delivering continuous, intelligent, and efficient energy production when supported by state-of-the-art technology.
Local and Regional Support as a Key Success Factor
According to Luis Pedro López, Commercial Director at Corporación de Electricidad Centroamericana (CEC), the collaboration with technology and service partners was critical to the project’s success:
“We found a very solid solution with Huawei and Operadores Nacionales (ON), backed by strong local and regional support. From installation and commissioning to ongoing operations, the team has provided excellent support throughout the project’s lifecycle.”

An End-to-End Solution with Certified Post-Sales Support
Huawei Digital Power, together with Operadores Nacionales (ON), delivers an end-to-end solution model that supports clients at every stage of a project—from conceptual design to commercial operation. This comprehensive approach ensures sustained performance, minimizes energy losses, and facilitates seamless integration with power grids.
Additionally, ON’s Certified Service Partner (CSP) status validates a post-sales service cycle with high efficiency levels and rapid response times, further strengthening operational reliability.
Setting a New Benchmark for Solar Distributed Generation
With over two years of continuous and proven commercial operation, the Don Jorge photovoltaic plant sets a new benchmark for technical feasibility and implementation within Guatemala’s GDR framework. Designed to embrace the renewable energy revolution, particularly solar photovoltaics—the project combines high operational reliability with advanced digital energy technologies.
By integrating innovation, sustainability, and intelligent power management, Don Jorge stands as a reference model for future renewable energy developments in Guatemala and Latin America.
