Holcim Invests in Guatemala: New Plant Increases Production and Creates Jobs

Holcim has strengthened its role as a strategic partner in Guatemala’s infrastructure and construction sector with the expansion of its cement production capacity. This investment not only meets the country’s growing demand for high-quality building solutions but also reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable development in the region.

Advanced Technology and Sustainable Operations

The new mill integrates state-of-the-art technology designed to improve operational efficiency while reducing the company’s carbon footprint. This aligns with Holcim’s global sustainability commitments.

José Rivera, Marketing and Communications Manager at Holcim Guatemala, explained:

At this plant we will be producing both general-use cement and high-resistance cement. With a local plant, we can guarantee the quality and supply needed for construction projects across the country.

The project was executed under the highest safety and occupational health standards, achieving zero incidents during its construction. In addition, it generated more than 200 direct and indirect jobs, providing a meaningful boost to the local economy.

Strengthening Holcim’s Presence in Guatemala

This new mill adds to recent investments that include the modernization of production processes, supply chain optimization, and stronger capabilities in ready-mix concrete.

Manuel Sirtori, CEO of Holcim Guatemala, emphasized:

With this second mill, we reaffirm our trust in Guatemala. This project not only expands our capacity to meet the country’s rising demand for cement but also allows us to optimize processes, deliver higher-quality products, and project our global leadership in sustainable construction.”

Long-Term Commitment to Construction in the Region

Holcim’s leadership underlines its long-term vision for the Guatemalan market. As Sirtori noted:

Our commitment is to remain in the construction industry for many years. Holcim has been present in Latin America for more than 65 years, and Guatemala will be no exception—we are here to grow and develop alongside the country.

With this expansion, Holcim not only increases its cement production capacity but also reinforces its long-term commitment to Guatemala’s construction sector. By combining advanced technology, sustainable practices, and local economic impact, Holcim positions itself as a key partner for high-quality infrastructure projects, supporting the country’s growth and development for years to come.
