Guatemala strengthens trade ties with South Korea
Guatemala deepens its trade relationship with South Korea through bilateral cooperation, investment, and export promotion.

As part of an official visit to South Korea, Guatemala’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Julio Orozco, held key meetings to reinforce bilateral cooperation and expand trade opportunities between the two nations. His agenda included high-level discussions with government officials and private sector leaders, reaffirming Guatemala’s commitment to strategic commercial diplomacy.

Bilateral cooperation and investment opportunities
One of the most significant meetings was with Lee Jooil, Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean at South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Topics discussed included:
- Technical and educational cooperation
- Semiconductor industry development
- Information technology applications
- Strengthening commercial relations
Vice Minister Orozco also met with Ki-chang Kwon, Vice President of the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA), to explore ways to promote Guatemalan products through trade fairs, business missions, and access to KOIMA’s importer database.

Trade, industry, and Guatemalan exports
In the business sector, Orozco met with Chul Min Yoon, Vice President of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to boost bilateral trade and attract new investments to Guatemala. He also held talks with the President of the Seongnam Business Association, focusing on corporate cooperation and future business matchmaking opportunities.
A key goal is to increase exports of Guatemalan products, especially coffee, to Asian markets. These efforts align with the strategy of Guatemala’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) to position the country as a reliable and competitive global partner.
