Banco Cuscatlán officially started operations in Guatemala on September 16, 2025, after acquiring 100% of the shares of Banco Inmobiliario. This move represents a key step in the Salvadoran financial group’s regional expansion strategy, aimed at strengthening its presence across Central America.
Supporting sustainable development and clients
Federico Nasser Facussé, President of Cuscatlán Investments Central America, emphasized that the bank’s priority is “to support the dreams of our clients, generating sustainable, long-term development in every country where we operate because we believe in Guatemala and in Central America.”
Meanwhile, Rafael Buonafina, General Manager, highlighted the bank’s commitment to “provide personalized, human, and excellent service, supported by innovative products and solutions that truly accompany our clients at every stage of their financial journey.”
Banco Cuscatlán’s arrival in Guatemala aims to strengthen retail banking, promote small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and encourage innovation in financial products and services.
Infrastructure and coverage in Guatemala
The bank starts operations with a solid infrastructure:
- 48 branches across the country
- 31 banking agents for personalized service
- Nationwide coverage through the 5B network, with over 2,700 ATMs
These measures ensure accessible, efficient, and close-to-client service throughout Guatemala.

Proven experience in the region
Banco Cuscatlán has been recognized as the best bank in El Salvador for six consecutive years, according to media outlets such as La Prensa Gráfica. In 2022, it expanded into Honduras, and now it arrives in Guatemala with a modern, client-focused, and digital approach.
This is not the first acquisition by the group: it previously acquired Citibank, Scotiabank, and Scotia Seguros. In Guatemala, in addition to Banco Inmobiliario, it also acquired Seguros Confío, further strengthening its growth strategy and diversification of financial services.
A modern and client-focused banking proposition
With this expansion, Banco Cuscatlán reinforces its commitment to innovation, excellence in customer service, and sustainable development, consolidating its position as a key player in the Central American financial ecosystem.
