Arajet Partnered with MINEX to Boost Tourism Between Guatemala and the Dominican Republic
With Arajet’s & MINEX's support, Guatemala presented its cultural, natural, and archaeological attractions in the Dominican Republic, highlighting Mayan heritage, UNESCO sites, and regional connectivity.
Arajet partnered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala (MINEX), through the Guatemalan Embassy in the Dominican Republic, to present the country’s cultural, natural, and archaeological wealth to tourism agencies and companies during the event “Discover and Experience Guatemala.”
Guatemala positions itself as a multidiverse tourism destination
The event highlighted Guatemala’s potential as a multidiverse destination, known for its rich cultural heritage, deep-rooted Mayan worldview, and a wide range of experiences spanning adventure, nature, and culture.
Attendees were introduced to the country’s unique social fabric, shaped by 22 Mayan ethnic groups, alongside Garífuna, Xinca, and mestizo communities, whose living traditions remain an essential part of Guatemala’s identity.
Guatemala was also presented as one of the world’s megadiverse countries, offering travelers a combination of biodiversity, history, and ancestral culture within a relatively compact territory.
The heart of the Mayan World and UNESCO World Heritage sites
During the presentation, Guatemala’s role as the heart of the Mayan World was emphasized, with more than 170 monumental archaeological sites across the country.
Four of these have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala and the iconic Tikal National Park, one of the most significant archaeological complexes in the Americas.
Strengthening tourism ties between Guatemala and the Dominican Republic
Marlene Reynoso Urzúa, Chargé d’Affaires of the Guatemalan Embassy in the Dominican Republic, underscored the importance of bilateral collaboration to boost tourism flows.
“It is essential to strengthen alliances between tour operators and explore strategies that increase the number of visitors to Guatemala; our goal is to bring more Dominicans closer to the heart of the Mayan World. We are grateful to Arajet for joining this effort,” she said.
Seven tourism regions presented to Dominican agencies

Tourism agencies attending the event were introduced to Guatemala’s seven tourism regions, each offering distinct experiences:
- Modern and Colonial
- Highlands, Living Mayan Culture
- Petén, Adventure in the Mayan World
- Izabal, Green Caribbean
- Verapaces, Natural Paradise
- Pacific, Magical and Diverse
- Eastern Region, Mystical and Natural
The presentations were led by Ericka Guillermo, Commercial Counselor at the Guatemalan Embassy, who encouraged Dominican agencies to actively promote the destination.
“Today we are showcasing Guatemala’s natural and cultural beauty, a distinctive destination that is easily accessible for Dominican travelers. We want to work closely with you to promote travel and take advantage of the direct connectivity we have with Arajet,” she stated.
